In Odessa, plans are underway to commemorate the memory of Odessa residents who died in the Russian-Ukrainian war. The city council reports that work is nearing completion on the construction of a Memorial to the Fallen near the building of the Odessa Regional Administration, on the side of Kanatna Street. Plaques with the names of all fallen Odessa residents, including soldiers, volunteers, medics, and journalists, will be installed there.
Additionally, the city council has initiated the process of renaming streets in Odessa in honor of Odessa residents who lost their lives during the Russian-Ukrainian war. The streets will be named after Heroes of Ukraine and recipients of the Order of "For Courage" of all three degrees. Information is currently being collected to identify potential streets for renaming.
Furthermore, the city is designing memorial plaques that can be installed on buildings where the fallen servicemen lived, with the consent of their families.
During the full-scale war, several toponyms in Odessa have already been renamed, including Alexander Avenue (now Prospekt Ukrayinskykh Heroyiv), Gagarin Avenue (now Prospekt Neskorenykh), and Gorky Park (now Children's Dreams Park, dedicated to children affected by the war).
The Victory Park alleys have also been renamed in honor of various military units that are fighting for Ukraine's independence and sovereignty. These include the alleys for Special Operations Forces, Border Guards, Ground Forces, Naval Forces, Air Force, Air Assault Troops, National Guard, Territorial Defense Forces, National Police, Volunteers, and Intelligence Officers.
