From August 12 to 13, the Ukrainian Sumo Cup took place in Lutsk for both men and women. According to the Vinnytsia City Council's press service, nine athletes from Vinnytsia City Children's and Youth Sports School No. 5 participated in the competition and brought home two gold, two silver, and two bronze medals. They also won first place in the team ranking among men.
Over 200 athletes from 12 regions of the country participated in the Ukrainian Sumo Cup. Vazha Daiauri (junior) secured the championship title among adult athletes. He achieved a double victory by winning the gold in the "Absolute" category.
The silver medalists of the competition were Vadim Bogatchuk and Andriy Polish, while the bronze medals were earned by Dmytro Ziletsky and Viktoriya Sushko. Viktoriya Ruzhanska and Sofiya Koval placed fifth.
Among men, the Vinnytsia sumo team secured the first-place team ranking with members Dmytro Ziletsky, Illya Bilyi, Andriy Polish, and Vazha Daiauri (junior).
As Vazha Daiauri (senior), the coach of these talented athletes, mentioned, this tournament served as a qualification event for the World Junior Sumo Championship and the World Senior Sumo Championship.
"Dmytro Ziletsky (up to 100 kg) will represent Vinnytsia region at the World Junior Sumo Championship, and Vazha Daiauri (up to 115 kg) will compete at the World Senior Sumo Championship," stated coach Vazha Daiauri.
