Today, on European Square in Vinnytsia, the best embroidery craftswomen from the entire region and admirers of Podillian embroidery gathered. A creative event took place here, the solemn presentation of a united towel to Vinnytsia region as part of the artistic-patriotic project to create the International Embroidered Towel "Flower of the Vyshyvanka."
"Our region became the eleventh in Ukraine where the unity towel will be embroidered. It will depict the 'Tree of Life,' an ornament typical of Podillian embroidery. The best craftswomen from Vinnytsia will work on this piece," commented Olga Dernova, the head of the Department of Culture and Arts of Vinnytsia Regional State Administration.
Vinnytsia region received the International Unity Towel from craftswomen in Khmelnytskyi region. It will be passed on to Zhytomyr region and then to other regions of Ukraine. This tradition began ten years ago with the initiative of the Chairman of the Ukrainian World Coordinating Council, Mykhailo Ratovsky, the Chairman of the Ukrainian Business League "Ukrainska Sprava," Mykhailo Ratushniak, and the Chairman of the Charitable Fund "Flower of the Vyshyvanka," Yevhen Filya.
This 12.5-meter-long piece of cloth will feature ornaments from all regions of Ukraine, as well as Ukrainian diaspora communities around the world.
So far, craftswomen from Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Cherkasy, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Volyn, Crimea, Rivne, and other regions, as well as Canada, Poland, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Austria, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia, have completed their work on the towel. Each region identified the most recognizable elements specific to their area and incorporated them into the piece.
