A man was detained in Odesa, who helped evaders to flee abroad

Law enforcement officers have arrested a resident of Odessa who, in collaboration with several other individuals, devised a plan for the illegal transportation of conscript-aged men across the state border of Ukraine. This was reported by the Odessa Regional Police.

Having found a "client" through one of the messengers, he explained to him the specific method by which the state border would be crossed, provided advice and instructions on the specific actions to take during the crossing, and assured him of his ability to overcome obstacles on the way to the neighboring country through his strong connections.

For his "services," which the citizen was supposed to receive, the perpetrator demanded a reward of $4,000 USD in two installments—one immediately and the other in the neighboring country.

After receiving an advance payment of $1,500 USD from the "client," the Odessa resident provided him with transportation to the destination. Near the state border of Ukraine, the man, following further instructions received by phone, was supposed to cross on foot into the territory of another country bypassing the official checkpoint.

Law enforcement officers stopped the vehicle with the "evader" on its way to the state border and detained the perpetrator of the crime. Police investigators informed him of the suspicion. This crime is classified under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and is punishable by imprisonment for a term of seven to nine years with the deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, along with property confiscation.

Currently, investigators are working on determining pretrial detention for the suspect. The investigation is ongoing, and all circumstances of the criminal offense are being established. The issue of notifying other participants in the criminal scheme about the suspicion is also being addressed.
