Prosecutors of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office have sent an indictment to court against three employees of the Patrol Police Department in the Odesa region. They are charged with exceeding their official powers, accompanied by violence, under Article 365 (Part 2) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, in early January of this year, the police officers, while patrolling the Malynovsky district of Odesa as part of a patrol car crew, stopped a vehicle. During the conversation related to the vehicle stop, a verbal conflict arose between one of the law enforcement officers and a passenger, leading the patrol officers, without any legal grounds or warning, to push the driver and the passenger face down onto the asphalt.

Subsequently, the patrol officers put handcuffs on the passenger of the vehicle, who turned out to be the elderly father of the driver, and took him to the police station for the compilation of administrative materials. Despite the fact that the victim did not resist in any way, two of the patrol officers continued to verbally insult him and physically assaulted him, hitting him on the legs, torso, and head.

As a result of these unlawful actions by law enforcement officers, the victim sustained numerous facial injuries and a fracture of the left kneecap.

Currently, two of the accused have been dismissed from law enforcement agencies, and their accomplice has received an official reprimand following the results of the internal investigation.

Pre-trial investigation in the criminal case was conducted by the investigators of the Department of the State Bureau of Investigations in Mykolaiv with the operational support of the officers of the Patrol Police Department in the Odesa region of the National Police of Ukraine.

Under the law, this crime is punishable by up to 8 years of imprisonment.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent until their guilt is proven in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict.
