In Odesa, a man demanded 20 thousand dollars for assistance in evading military service

In Odesa, a resident of the city was exposed for demanding $20,000 USD in exchange for influencing officials at the military enlistment office. This information was reported by the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office.

According to the investigation, the suspect offered assistance to a draftee in obtaining documents declaring him unfit for military service. The man intended to use his connections within the district territorial center for conscription and social support (formerly the military enlistment office) in Odesa for this purpose.

Additionally, he threatened that if his demands were not met, the draftee's medical documents would not be considered by the military enlistment office. Law enforcement detained the man while he was receiving a bribe. He has been charged with extortion of unlawful benefits for exerting influence, as per Article 369-2, Part 3, of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Currently, the question of applying preventive measures to the suspect is under consideration. The full circle of participants involved in the illegal scheme for illicit gain is also being established. The pre-trial investigation in this criminal case is being conducted by the detectives of the police department No. 2 of the Office for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Police in Odesa region, with operational support from the officers of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa region and the State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine.
