A Hero of Ukraine, Andriy Orlov, lost his life in the war against the occupiers. He was a sergeant in the 131st Separate Reconnaissance Battalion and became the first Hero of Ukraine awarded for the liberation of Kherson. His mother, Olena Orlova, reported his death, expressing her grief: "My Son, my child, my everything... on the shield."
Andriy Orlov was originally from Poltava. In 2014, he volunteered to join the "Donbas" battalion and later defended Ukraine in the "Azov" battalion. On November 11, 2022, the Armed Forces of Ukraine liberated Kherson, which had been under occupation for 256 days.
On November 14, President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded honors to the soldiers who participated in the liberation of the city.
The head of state commended the generals who led the operation and also mentioned the name of Sergeant Andriy Orlov, who was posthumously bestowed the title of Hero of Ukraine.
Sincere condolences to his family.
