In the Poltava region, two dragon boat rowing competitions are taking place simultaneously: the Cup of Ukraine and the Open Regional Championship - the Cup in memory of the Master of Sports of International Class Oleksandr Lytvynenko.
Dmytro Lunin, the head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, announced this.
"Over 300 athletes are competing for the championship at distances of 200, 500, and 2000 meters. Participants have come from the Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Volyn, Cherkasy, Dnipropetrovsk, and Lviv regions. The age of the athletes ranges from 19 and up. I wish you success," noted Dmytro Lunin.
According to Valeriy Morhun, the President of the Ukrainian Dragon Boat Rowing Federation, after the competitions, the Ukrainian national team will be formed, which will represent our country at the World Championships.
"The Cup of Ukraine is held in three classes: 'women,' 'men,' and 'mixed: men and women.' For years, our team has been the strongest in Europe, second only to Germany in terms of the total number of medals. Many athletes have joined the defense of the state. However, I am convinced that this year we will proudly represent our country at the World Championships in Thailand," said Valeriy Morhun.
Edward Shevchenko, the President of the Poltava Regional Dragon Boat Rowing Federation, stated that 90 athletes from Poltava have joined the competition.
The family members of Oleksandr Lytvynenko also attended the competition.
Oleksandr Lytvynenko, from Horishni Plavni, was a Master of Sports of International Class in kayaking and canoeing and participated in the XXVI Olympic Games in Atlanta (1996).
