An electronic petition has been registered on the city council's website, demanding the revocation of the title of "Honorary Citizen of Dnipro" from Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev. The petition was authored by Mykita Vynnyk.

According to the explanation provided by Mykita Vynnyk, the petition is based on the law of Ukraine "On Condemning the Communist and National Socialist (Nazi) Totalitarian Regimes in Ukraine and Prohibiting the Propaganda of Their Symbols." The petitioner requests the removal of the title of "Honorary Citizen of Dnipro" from the Soviet state and party official Leonid Brezhnev.

The petition was registered on May 29, 2023, and as of today, it has gathered 31 votes out of the necessary 3000 for consideration.

To provide some context, Leonid Brezhnev was born on December 19, 1906, in the city of Kamenskoye in the Katerynoslav Governorate (now part of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast). He passed away on November 10, 1982, in the Moscow region. He held the position of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) from 1964 to 1982. He also served as the Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR from 1977 to 1982. He was named an Honorary Citizen of Dnipro on August 21, 1979. He was also an Honorary Citizen of Kyiv, starting from April 26, 1982. However, his title of Honorary Citizen of Kyiv was revoked by the decision of the Kyiv City Council on May 25, 2023.
