20 stab wounds: law enforcement officers arrested a man who killed a friend and then burned his body

The body of a 63-year-old resident of Horodysche was found in a house after extinguishing a fire. During the examination of the victim, stab wounds were discovered. The suspect, who is suspected of murder, faces life imprisonment, according to the Cherkasy Regional Police press service.

"On May 4th at 07:45, a report of a fire in a private residence in the city of Horodysche was received by the police. After extinguishing the fire, a charred body of a man with multiple stab wounds to the chest and abdominal cavity was found in a summer kitchen," the statement said.

To establish the circumstances of the victim's death, an investigative-operational group, forensic specialists, canine unit officers, and a forensic laboratory worked at the scene.

Law enforcement officers carefully examined the man's body, the adjacent area, and collected the necessary evidence for the investigation. It took the police officers only a few hours to uncover the suspect and his hiding place.

The suspect turned out to be a 52-year-old acquaintance of the victim, previously convicted of murder. According to law enforcement, a conflict arose between the men during a gathering, which escalated into a fight. Using a knife, the guest inflicted more than 20 stab wounds on the victim, who died on the spot.

The perpetrator was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Currently, under the procedural guidance of the local prosecutor's office, the suspect has been charged with committing a criminal offense under Part 2 of Article 115 (Intentional Homicide) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The man has been remanded in custody.

The penalty under this article includes imprisonment for a term of seven to fifteen years or life imprisonment. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
