On May 21, the city and regional leaders, as well as representatives of the public and clergy, gathered at the Western Cemetery in Odessa to honor the memory of the victims of the tragic events of 1937-1938. This information was reported on the website of the Odessa Regional Council.
A priest recited a memorial prayer, and Oleg Radkovsky, the first deputy chairman of the Odessa Regional Council, emphasized the importance of studying and preserving the memory of the tragic lessons of history.
"In those horrifying times, we lost the best representatives of the intelligentsia, science, and culture—the nation's finest. Today, we are losing our sons and daughters again due to war and inhumanity directed against Ukraine. But goodness always prevails over evil. We remember our history and learn from it because we are a free country, free people, and we will undoubtedly defeat evil," said Oleg Radkovsky.
Memory of the victims of political repression was also honored at the Second Christian Cemetery (6 Liustdorfska Road).
Representatives of the authorities, clergy, and the community of the city took part in the event. Attendees laid flowers at the memorial plaque and the graves of the victims of political repression.
