During today's session of the eighth convocation of the Poltava City Council, deputies supported the proposal to posthumously award the title of "Honorary Citizen of the Poltava City Territorial Community" to City Council Deputy Yulian Matviychuk.

Junior Sergeant Yulian Oleksandrovych Matviychuk, born in 1989, was an active participant in the Revolution of Dignity. In 2014-2015, he took part in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) in eastern Ukraine. He was elected as a deputy of the Poltava City Council twice and headed the Poltava branch of the All-Ukrainian Union "Svoboda."

Additionally, he was one of the co-founders of the civic organization "Save Poltava." He defended Ukraine for the second time, taking up arms on the first day of the full-scale Russian invasion. On February 24, 2022, he was conscripted by the Poltava Regional Military Commissariat and Special Enrollment Office and served in the reconnaissance unit "Solovey" of the 116th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade.

He was awarded the breastplate "For Distinguished Service" on June 16, 2015. In 2016, he received the medal "For Sacrifice and Love for Ukraine" from Patriarch Filaret of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP). He was also honored with the breastplate "For Faithfulness to the People of Ukraine" of the Poltava Regional Council (Grade II) on March 13, 2017.

Furthermore, he received the badge "Legion of Freedom Combatant" from the NGO "All-Ukrainian Union of ATO Veterans 'Legion of Freedom'" on February 16, 2019. He was awarded the breastplate "For Faithfulness to the People of Ukraine" of the Poltava Regional Council (Grade I) on August 22, 2022.

On May 15, during the battle near the settlement of Hеorhiivka in Donetsk Oblast, he sustained a severe injury. On May 20, Yulian Matviychuk passed away at the Mechnikov Hospital in Dnipro.
