The bus was operating on the route from Khmelnytskyi to Kremenchuk. At the time of the road accident, there were 41 passengers on the bus. One driver and 22 passengers were transported to the hospital.
The accident occurred around 02:00 in the morning, near the village of Dobrovody in the Uman district. Preliminary investigations by law enforcement suggest that the 56-year-old driver of the "EOS" vehicle did not adjust his speed safely on a curved section of the road and failed to consider the road conditions. As a result, the bus went off the right side of the road and overturned.
"Both the 56-year-old bus driver and 22 passengers, including three minors, sustained injuries of varying degrees of severity and were transported to hospitals," the statement reads.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated under Article 286, Part 1 (Violation of traffic safety or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for a fine of three to five non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens or corrective labor for a term of up to two years, or arrest for a term of up to six months, or imprisonment for a term of up to three years with the deprivation of the right to operate vehicles for up to three years. The investigation is ongoing.
