On the territory of the Dominican Monastery, which is part of the architectural and historical complex "Mury" in Vinnytsia, an expedition has already found a series of items dating back to the 17th-20th centuries. In the Vinnytsia Regional Local Lore Museum, they have published a list of findings as of July 15. Some of the discoveries include:
1. Fragments of 17th-18th-century ceramics, uncovered during excavations in an area with a significant burnt wood layer and a large number of pottery fragments. This structure may have been used as a cellar or hiding place.
2. "Nose warmers" or clay pipe bowls used for smoking. They are made from white clay and are beautifully ornamented. One of them has traces of green glaze. These were common from the 17th to the 19th century.
3. The handle from a ceramic frying pan known as a "ronda," which became popular in the second half of the 17th to the 19th century. A "ronda" is a deep frying pan with four ceramic legs and an empty handle into which a wooden holder was inserted. These pans gained popularity due to a new method of food preparation.
4. A set of glass items, most likely used in pharmacy: bottles, a plate for grinding powders, and auxiliary tools. These were found in a niche of a structure from the late 19th to the early 20th century.
5. Six burials that require further detailed scientific analysis.
These archaeological findings provide insights into the lives of people from the past, and excavation work is ongoing with hopes of discovering more interesting artifacts.
Archaeological research is planned to continue until the end of July 2023.
