In the village of Krynychne in Odessa region, a man has set up a pig farm on his own property, causing a strong stench and environmental damage. The neighbors have been complaining about the constant foul odor emanating from the farm, which also has a manure pile in the yard. The fence around the farm is unreliable, and large dogs roam freely on the premises. All the waste from the pig farm flows into the nearby Karasulak River during rainfall, causing pollution and creating a local environmental problem.
The head of Krynychne territorial community, Stepan Velykov, mentions that the local authorities have made repeated attempts to address the issue. The farm has been visited by a commission from the community to discuss and prevent violations of the settlement's improvement rules. However, the man responsible for the pig farm has been unresponsive to the residents' complaints and the commission's advice. He continues to expand his hazardous business, poisoning people with ammonia and hydrogen sulfide.
In response to the situation, the Krynychne territorial community wrote a letter to the State Environmental Inspection of the South-Western District (covering Mykolaiv and Odessa regions) seeking resolution. The Inspection responded that the community has the authority to address the matter on its own.
Furthermore, during a council session, the community approved Rules for the Keeping of Domestic Animals and Birds in the Krynychne territorial community. According to these rules, there are limits on the number of animals that can be kept on a property: up to 100 adult birds, up to 15 small horned cattle, up to 3 large horned cattle, up to 30 rabbits with offspring, up to 5 pigs, and up to 2 horses. If the number of animals exceeds these limits, their keeping is allowed only with written consent from the neighbors.
