Military personnel from Smila were awarded honors. Two of them, unfortunately, received posthumous awards. The mayor of Smila, Serhiy Ananko, made this announcement.

Eugene Volodymyrovych Sarazha (posthumously) was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, III class, "For personal bravery and selfless actions demonstrated in defense of Ukraine's state sovereignty and territorial integrity." He was a junior lieutenant, assistant chief of staff, and head of intelligence of the first mechanized battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, with the call sign "Jack." Eugene Sarazha lost his life on February 15, 2023, near Donetsk Oblast due to a missile strike on the command observation post of the first mechanized battalion.

Alexander Kostyantynovych Machulsky (posthumously) was awarded the Order "For Courage," II class, "For personal bravery demonstrated in defense of Ukraine's state sovereignty and territorial integrity, and selfless performance of military duty." He was a senior soldier and commander of the 1st airborne division of the 2nd airborne platoon of the 10th airborne company of the 4th airborne battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Alexander Machulsky died from severe life-threatening injuries sustained during enemy artillery shelling while fighting against Russian invaders on January 18, 2023, near the settlement of Soledar, Bakhmut district, Donetsk Oblast.

Maxim Spivak was awarded the Medal of the Commander of Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, III class, "For courage and heroism demonstrated during the repelling of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation." Maxim Spivak was a soldier and assistant grenadier, considered missing since June 2023 while performing military duties in the active combat zone in Donetsk Oblast.

The honors were received by the families of the heroes.
