Russian spy who hunted for air defence systems in Dnipro to spend 15 years behind bars

Thanks to the evidence gathered by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), another participant of the Russian military intelligence's agent network has been sentenced to a real prison term. The individual operated within the informant network of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (known as "GRU"), which the SBU neutralized earlier this year through a special operation in Dnipro.

During the operation, the criminal and his accomplices were apprehended. They were collecting intelligence about the locations and movements of Defense Forces on the territory of the region. Additionally, they provided the aggressor with information about the locations of civilian infrastructure and vital facilities, including energy-generating enterprises in the region.

The investigation revealed that the convicted person is a resident of Dnipro, an IT technology expert, who actively supported Russia's full-scale aggression. He was responsible within the Russian agent network for monitoring possible positions of the Ukrainian Air Defense Forces in the frontline areas of the region. He conducted visual observations and recorded the directions and times of the Ukrainian Air Defense Forces' responses to enemy targets.

All the gathered information was relayed to the Russian military intelligence through a senior member of the enemy's agent group (resident) using anonymous messengers. The occupiers utilized the intelligence received from these "sources" to prepare air strikes on the region using ballistic or cruise missiles, as well as Shahed-type kamikaze drones.

Based on the collected evidence, the Russian agent was found guilty under Article 111 Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed during wartime).

Considering the individual's active cooperation with the investigation, the court sentenced him to 15 years in prison with property confiscation.
