The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, at its meeting, has increased the electricity tariff for the population almost twofold, to the level of 2.64 UAH per kilowatt-hour, starting from June 1. The relevant resolution has been published on the Cabinet's website.
Currently, the tariff for individual household consumers is 1.44 UAH per kilowatt-hour for consumption up to 250 kilowatts and 1.68 UAH if it exceeds 250 kilowatt-hours per month.
However, at the proposal of the Ministry of Energy, the government has introduced a unified tariff of 2.64 UAH per kilowatt-hour from June 1.
The Ministry of Energy explained that the decision to increase tariffs is due to the necessity, primarily resulting from Russia's destruction of Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Since the beginning of the war, Russia has damaged 50% of Ukraine's energy system, with some power plants being occupied.
Without a tariff review, Ukraine will not be able to properly prepare for the upcoming heating season, according to the Ministry of Energy.
It was previously reported that the state-owned company "Energoatom" is facing a significant financial deficit, and without a tariff increase, it will not be able to fulfill its obligations properly in supplying electricity to the population.
