The fitter of the Odesa port plant won the championship of Ukraine in model ship sports

Valeriy Kharet, a locksmith for assembly and repair works at the Odessa Marine Engineering Plant, won the first place at the Ukrainian Championship in ship modeling, which took place in Kyiv. This was announced by the institution's press service on May 23.

He secured a gold medal in the section "C" battle of models, which includes large-scale models, precise technical constructions, and ship details.

Valeriy Kharet is a member of the Ukrainian Federation of Ship Modeling and Ship Modeling Sports, a Master of Sports of Ukraine, and a multiple prize-winner in ship modeling sports championships at the world, European, and national levels.

"Valeriy has been passionate about modeling since his early childhood. He has assembled dozens of models of cars, planes, buildings, ships, and more. However, having carefully studied all the intricacies and specifics of modeling, Valeriy started pursuing ship modeling professionally in 2016. Since then, all models, except ship replicas, have taken a back seat," the announcement states.

In 2021, he took the third place at the European Championship by creating a model of the 1782 "LA VENUS" frigate.

Currently, the locksmith is preparing for the World Championship in the Czech Republic, which will take place in the autumn. The model he will use for the championship is being updated with new details, copper plating is added to the hull, and the ship's figurehead is being crafted.

For reference, the Ukrainian Championship took place from May 3 to May 5, 2023, in Kyiv and was attended by representatives of teams from various Ukrainian regions and cities.
