A farming family from Dnipropetrovsk region has sent over 100 tons of wheat and barley seeds to Kherson region. This initiative was announced by the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration, Serhiy Lysak.
"The first humanitarian cargo was sent by a real farming family, led by 86-year-old Volodymyr Ivanovych. He survived the famine. He says he will do everything in his power to ensure that such a tragedy never befalls Ukrainians again," the statement said.
Lysak noted that the idea for this assistance was taken from the "Shoulder to Shoulder" project aimed at rebuilding the affected villages, which was previously initiated by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"We have taken up the baton of the 'Shoulder to Shoulder' project. Now, we are not only rebuilding but also ensuring that people who have survived the occupation have bread," Lysak added.
The assistance will be provided to farmers who have returned and are restoring their farms that were looted by occupiers. A total of 300 tons of seeds have been prepared for Kherson region, which will be distributed among six farms.
Prior to the full-scale war, Kherson region, a leader in the production of grain, sunflower, vegetables, and melon crops, was one of Ukraine's largest exporters of agricultural products. Now, the region's agriculture sector is in need of help. Russian soldiers and their looting have turned these fertile lands into desolation and ashes. Nearly 95% of the land has been mined. Agricultural enterprises have been destroyed, equipment burned, warehouses and production facilities demolished. Additionally, a significant amount of agricultural machinery and products were stolen from these enterprises.
