In early May, students and a teacher at Sugakivsky Lyceum in Mohyliv-Podilskyi district fell ill with the norovirus. Eleven students and the teacher became sick.

According to the research results from the regional center for disease control and prevention, Alexander Zahoruiko, stated, "Food products, environmental swabs from the cafeteria, and water samples were collected. Norovirus was found in 9 of the sick individuals, while two tests came back negative. The norovirus is a virus that can be transmitted through food, water, and contact."

On May 10th, parents and a teacher from the lyceum with symptoms of poisoning turned to the hospital in Mohyliv-Podilskyi district. Eleven students and the teacher were diagnosed with "Acute Gastrointestinal Infection" and received outpatient treatment. The lyceum has a total of 90 students, all of whom eat in the same cafeteria.

The regional police have opened a criminal case regarding this incident, investigating it as a "Violation of sanitary rules and norms for the prevention of infectious diseases and mass poisoning."

Norovirus infection, also known as the "stomach flu," is an acute viral disease that primarily manifests as a gastroenteritis syndrome. Its main symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, rumbling in the stomach, and watery diarrhea. Severe temperature reactions and respiratory symptoms occur less frequently.
