Under public prosecution by the Odessa Regional Prosecutor's Office, a former law enforcement officer from one of the district police departments in Odessa has been found guilty of state treason and illegal handling of firearms and ammunition (Part 2 of Article 111, Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

He has been sentenced to life imprisonment with the confiscation of property.

Prosecutors in court established that following the commencement of full-scale invasion, the former law enforcement officer was recruited by a representative of the Russian GRU to conduct reconnaissance and subversive activities in the region.

He collected intelligence regarding the locations and movements of Ukrainian military units, the situation at the ports of Odessa and Chornomorsk, and railway connections.

To carry out tasks assigned by Russian handlers, the informant acquired three video cameras, known as "trail cameras," which he installed along the railway tracks in the suburbs of Odessa to capture passing freight trains.

The data captured by these cameras were transmitted to the representatives of Russian special services in real-time via a mobile application. The agent received 50,000 hryvnias for the purchase and installation of these "trail cameras."

The traitor was apprehended while executing the enemy's routine task near the railway tracks. Explosives and ammunition were seized from him at that time, including 12 trotyl charges weighing 3.2 kg, detonators, detonating cord, and an antitank mine.

During the court hearing, the accused admitted his guilt entirely but did not express remorse. Instead, he stated, "Resisting the Ukrainian quasi-state is the duty of every adult man in these circumstances."

In his final words, he showed that his only regret was that his subversive activities against Ukraine were prematurely exposed. He expressed his desire to continue working for the benefit of the Russian Federation, as he considers Western countries, which are helping Ukraine in its fight against the "forces of good," represented by Russia, to be "forces of evil."
