In Odesa, low-quality canned goods were purchased for the reserve for 1.3 million hryvnias

An entrepreneur from Chornomorsk in Odessa Oblast is suspected of embezzlement of budget funds in especially large amounts (Part 5, Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The woman purchased poor-quality canned goods from an unknown manufacturer for 1.3 million UAH to form a strategic reserve.

This information was provided by the Odessa Regional Prosecutor's Office.

The case involves the supply of 28.8 thousand cans of canned meat with peas for distribution to the population during emergencies in the region.

"According to the investigation, the suspect in April 2022, within the program 'Creation of a material reserve to prevent and eliminate the consequences of emergencies,' supplied food products of inadequate quality worth 1.3 million UAH to the Chornomorsk City Council of Odessa Oblast, which she purchased from an unknown manufacturer," stated the prosecutor's office.

The technical specifications of the canned meat did not meet the requirements of Ukrainian national standards (DSTU) and other requirements regarding the circulation of food products. The product lacked appropriate labeling and information regarding "production date," "expiration date," and "contents." Consequently, it is impossible to sell the canned goods on the domestic market, and they must be disposed of.

The issue of applying preventive measures to the suspect is currently being resolved.

The pre-trial investigation in the criminal case is being conducted by investigators of the Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police's Main Directorate in Odessa Oblast under the operational support of the Security Service of Ukraine in Odessa Oblast.
