On August 30th, in the city of Chornomorsk, Odessa region, a 27-year-old man barricaded his former civilian wife, their small daughter, and her grandmother in an apartment, threatening them with physical violence. People on the street heard cries for help and called the law enforcement agencies. This information was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odessa region.
A special operations unit known as KORD was involved in the operation to rescue the hostages. During negotiations with the offender, law enforcement officers managed to convince him to release the mother of his former cohabitant. He handed over the 46-year-old woman to representatives of the municipal guard from the window of the apartment to the balcony.
The woman was taken to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with a closed head injury, concussion, multiple hematomas on her face, and a wound on her forearm.
The man adamantly refused to release his former cohabitant with their child. The mother and daughter were later rescued through an operational combination involving negotiators and KORD personnel.
The 26-year-old woman, like her mother, had experienced domestic violence, and she was taken to a medical facility with injuries to her head, face, and hands.
The child was physically unharmed and is currently with her mother.
"I managed to establish a connection with the man. I told him that no matter what difficulties we face, we must remain human beings, protect and defend our families. Domestic violence is unacceptable, and our relatives should be under our protection. It is very important for me that everything ended well today," said the KORD special forces member who conducted negotiations with the man.
The detained man faces up to five years of imprisonment.
