In Cherkasy region, a man beat his sleeping wife with a metal rod

In the city of Zhashkiv, Cherkasy region, a man was arrested for beating his wife with a metal rod while she was sleeping. The woman is currently in the hospital, and the man is facing a potential prison sentence. This was reported on May 20 by the Main Department of the National Police in the Cherkasy region.

According to the investigation, law enforcement officers determined that a 76-year-old man took a metal rod and struck his 72-year-old wife several times while she was sleeping in a different room of their house. About six blows were inflicted to the woman's head and body. She is currently hospitalized.

The investigators have charged the man with the crime under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which deals with intentional grievous bodily harm.

The man is currently in custody, and the court has ordered pretrial detention for a period of 60 days.

It's worth noting that in Odessa, a man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for providing the Russian Federation's special services with information about the locations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Odessa region. During the trial, the man admitted to the crime but refused to express remorse, citing his "ideological preferences." He was sentenced to 15 years in prison for state treason and illegal possession and acquisition of firearms, with the confiscation of property.
