Employees of the State Bureau of Investigations have reported suspicions to three customs officers from Dnipropetrovsk region who, prior to the full-scale war initiated by the Russian Federation, "assisted" a local company in saving tens of millions of hryvnias during the import of methyl alcohol from Russia. This information was announced on June 9th by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigations.
In official documents, the officials, instead of methyl alcohol, declared that a paint solvent was being imported into Ukraine. Thanks to this scheme, the businessmen avoided paying excise tax.
As a result of a three-year collaboration between the customs officers and the company, the state budget of Ukraine incurred losses of over 50 million hryvnias.
The three customs officers have been informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 364 (Abuse of Power or Official Position) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. They face up to six years of imprisonment.
Currently, investigators are identifying other possible individuals involved in the crime that harmed the state budget of Ukraine. They are also addressing the issue of taking the customs officers into custody.
The procedural guidance is carried out by the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.
