An additional 95 Ukrainian defenders have been successfully freed from Russian captivity. This information was announced by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War. Among those released from captivity, there are 51 members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (including 15 from territorial defense units), 29 individuals from the National Guard of Ukraine, 11 border guards, and four naval personnel.
All of those released this time are male, including two officers. The rest are enlisted personnel and non-commissioned officers. These Ukrainian servicemembers had been defending various locations, including Mariupol, Azovstal, Snake Island, the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, and the Donetsk front, particularly the Bahmut direction.
This prisoner exchange was made possible through complex negotiations conducted by the Ukrainian government. It led to the return of soldiers who had been held by the Private Military Company "Wagner" and the "Akhat" unit. Among the freed Ukrainians, three individuals had the status of "missing persons" (individuals not officially confirmed by the Russians as prisoners).
Additionally, a military musician from the 36th Brigade and a Marine were released from captivity. Seven of the released servicemembers had participated in the "helicopter mission" of the General Directorate of Intelligence to the occupied city of Mariupol. Four of those released have sustained serious injuries. One of the released servicemembers has a significant weight loss of 30 kilograms, and some have medical complications. They will be provided with all the necessary medical care and support.
