Today, on June 21, the Mayor of Vinnytsia, Serhiy Morgunov, inspected the installed automated door opening system in the shelter of Lyceum No. 18. This system is already in operation in 5 educational institutions in the city, and in the near future, such a practice will be introduced in another 20, according to the city council.

The system is currently in a test mode as there is no such experience in any city in Ukraine, and Vinnytsia is pioneering this initiative.

Serhiy Morgunov emphasized that in the conditions of war, the safety of citizens is the top priority. As the full-scale offensive began, the municipal authorities are constantly conducting planned checks of the objects of the civil defense shelter fund and places for temporary population relocation during the air raid alarm since not all facility owners maintain shelters properly and ensure they are accessible to people. Therefore, on June 5, the Mayor instructed to develop a unified municipal system for remote door opening in shelters during air raid alarms.

"As a result of the inspection, there are painful points. The first is the condition of these shelters, especially in multi-story buildings, and access to these premises during air raid alarms. This concerns not only communal institutions but also premises under the management of homeowner associations, businesses, and more. Because not all facility owners take their responsibilities seriously, not only in maintaining shelters in proper condition but also in ensuring their accessibility during air raid alarms. So, we are considering how to automate this during air raid alarms. We aim to keep all shelters open and minimize the human factor," said Serhiy Morgunov.

The head of the municipality announced that in the near future, the appropriate system will be installed in another 20 shelters, and eventually, on all entrances to places for temporary population relocation during air raid alarms.
