The quarantine due to African swine fever has been lifted in the Kirovohrad community. The disease was detected in May of this year in pigs on a private farm named "Harant."
This decision was made during a meeting of the local state emergency anti-epizootic commission at the Kropyvnytskyi district administration.
As part of this process, veterinarians disinfected the premises where the pigs were kept. A 24-hour quarantine post was set up at the entrance to the outbreak area, restricting access to external transport and people for 40 days.
Experts also counted the pig population in the protection and surveillance zones, and no reports of suspected infections or deaths were received from surrounding areas and territories.
African swine fever (ASF) is one of the most dangerous diseases for pigs, leading to high mortality rates among affected populations and significant economic losses. ASF requires the destruction of all potentially infected pig populations, as there is no vaccine available. Importantly, the virus does not transmit to humans and is safe for human health. Infection in pig farms can occur through direct contact between pigs, contaminated soil, non-disinfected feed, care and maintenance items, vehicles, and potentially wild boars, wandering animals, birds, and the farm staff.
