SSU: "uncanned" Russian military intelligence agent will spend 15 years behind bars

The Security Service has collected incontrovertible evidence of guilt against another agent of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, better known as the GRU. The perpetrator was gathering intelligence on the locations and movements of the Defense Forces within the territory of Vinnytsia Oblast. This information was reported by the SSU press service.

Additionally, he was passing on the locations of local government bodies, energy facilities, and social institutions, including boarding schools. Based on his information, the aggressors planned to launch a series of targeted missile strikes in the region.

However, SSU operatives timely exposed and detained this enemy collaborator as a result of a special operation in the region in November of last year.

Based on the materials provided by the Security Service, the court sentenced him to 15 years in prison.

The investigation revealed that the perpetrator was a resident of Vinnytsia Oblast and a former Soviet military serviceman who had left the army in the early 90s.

He was recruited by Russian military intelligence at that time and placed in a "waiting mode." At the onset of full-scale invasion, he was remotely contacted by a GRU officer, who assigned him to engage in intelligence and subversive activities against Ukraine.

Subsequently, the "reactivated" agent maintained communication with his "handler" through an anonymous Telegram channel, transmitting intelligence in the form of markers on electronic maps with media files of the objects.

Based on the collected evidence, the court found him guilty under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed during a state of war).

The Security Service emphasizes the inevitability of punishment for crimes against our state.

The investigation was conducted by SSU operatives in Vinnytsia Oblast under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
