A resident of Kirovohrad region, who fights in the "Wagner", was charged with treason

The Security Service of Ukraine has reported suspicions of state treason to a resident of Kirovohrad region who fights as a part of the "Wagner" group.

This information was provided by the spokesperson of the regional Security Service of Ukraine department, Yulia Tkach, to Suspilne.

The suspect is a resident of the city of Oleksandriya, aged 36. In 2016, the man joined the illegal armed formation known as the "Battalion Vostok." After the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, he switched to the "317th battalion of the Wagner private military company."

"The investigation has established that the militant, as a member of the Wagner battalion, participated in combat actions in the territory of Popasna city, Luhansk region. Additionally, he provided security for the locations of captured Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen," stated Yulia Tkach.

Based on the evidence collected, the resident of Kirovohrad region has been served with a suspicion notice under the following articles: Part 1 of Article 258-3, "Creation of a terrorist group or organization or participation in it," and Part 2 of Article 111, "State treason." The statutory penalty for these offenses includes imprisonment from 15 years to life, along with property confiscation.

In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent until their guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.
