Sentence passed in Dnipro on military man who opened fire on windows of orphanage

On January 19, 2023, in Dnipropetrovsk region, a military man opened fire at the window of a children's home. Specifically, he fired shots at the kitchen window where the caretaker was present. This information was reported by D1 TV channel, citing a judgment from the Amur-Nizhnedneprovsk District Court.

In court, the accused explained that he couldn't find a welding machine and an electric screwdriver that he had purchased. He believed that the tools were stolen. Due to a concussion, he felt regret for the theft and decided to visit the house of a potential thief but ended up in the wrong place. The military man entered the territory of the children's home and assumed that the caretaker was the mother of the thief, and he began shouting at her. Out of anger, he started shooting with a firearm, thinking it was aimed at the upper part of the house but ended up hitting the window.

The caretaker testified in court that the man pointed the weapon at the house, began shouting for someone to come out to the yard, and then opened fire, with glass shattering onto the orphaned children. She shielded them with her body and also reported that the man attempted to break into the building through the broken window.

The court found the military man guilty of hooliganism, specifically with the use of another object specially adapted or prepared in advance to inflict bodily harm. He was sentenced to five years of imprisonment.
