In June, inspections were carried out in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast to assess the condition of bomb shelters. The commission identified deficiencies in Dnipro, and as a result, Deputy Mayor Mykhailo Lysenko was temporarily suspended from work during an official investigation. The head of the Department for Civil Protection of the City Council, Andrii Hazin, was dismissed, and his superior, the director of the corresponding department, Oleksandr Chudnovsky, received an official reprimand.
"Across Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, there are over 3,500 shelters. All of them should be accessible to the people at any time and under any circumstances, without any 'buts,' especially after a year and a half of war," emphasized Serhiy Lysak, the head of Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration. "In June, inspections of protective structures in the region were carried out to assess their condition. There are shortcomings in Dnipro."
Efforts to resolve the issue were made in collaboration with local authorities, and decisions were taken regarding responsible individuals. The city authorities aim to rectify the situation by the end of July, and the results will be verified by a commission. Regular inspections of shelters will become a standard practice.
Boris Filatov, the Mayor of Dnipro, mentioned that a decision will be made during the next city council session to allocate an additional 200 million hryvnias for equipping, repairing, and reconstructing shelters and protective structures. He also mentioned the deployment of 50 more mobile shelters in various locations throughout the city, in addition to the existing 60 mobile shelters.
Dnipro is actively preparing its protective structures and shelters for the upcoming fall and winter season, and the acquired generators will be valuable assets in case of emergencies or potential blackouts due to terrorist attacks.
