On the way to the hospital, a patient who was hospitalized during childbirth in the city of Bolhrad in the Odessa region gave birth prematurely right inside the ambulance. The newborn baby girl was in extremely critical condition, not breathing, and required emergency resuscitation. The delivery was managed by paramedic Maria Kolesnik and driver Mykola Minevsky from Ambulance Brigade No. 296 of the Bolhrad Substation of the Center for Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine.
After the paramedic successfully restored the baby's breathing and considering the serious condition of the mother, it was decided to change the route and transport the woman and the baby to the Bolhrad Hospital instead of Izmail, as initially planned. Specialists were already waiting for them at the Bolhrad Hospital.
Medical professionals also appealed to expectant parents and urged them to take pregnancy seriously: follow the recommendations of healthcare providers, register for prenatal care, undergo regular check-ups, and go to the maternity ward in a timely manner to avoid endangering themselves and the baby.
They emphasized that no matter how advanced an ambulance and experienced a medical team are, they cannot replace a maternity ward, obstetrician-gynecologist, and neonatal resuscitation equipment.
