Today, on May 6, the mayor of Cherkasy, Anatoliy Bondarenko, awarded infantry servicemen who have successfully carried out missions in the combat zone.
The servicemen were awarded for exemplary performance of their duties, diligence, thoughtful initiative, and on the occasion of Infantry Day.
'Dear infantrymen! On behalf of the entire Cherkasy community, I thank you for being the first to defend our homeland. Infantry is the most mobile and versatile component of our army. You bear a tremendous responsibility, but you are capable of accomplishing the most challenging tasks and achieving victory. We wish you strong health, endurance, and success in all your combat operations!' - said the mayor Anatoliy Bondarenko.
He presented awards to servicemen for bravery and heroism demonstrated in the defense of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state, active civic position, conscientious performance of official duties, and loyalty to the military oath. The infantrymen were honored with breastplates 'For Bravery and Heroism' and commendations from the mayor.
'Today, infantry soldiers demonstrate their bravery and victory. Defensive, offensive, and raid operations carried out by mechanized and infantry units impress the world,' noted the Cherkasy Regional Military-Civilian Administration.
It's worth mentioning that Infantry Day was established on April 19, 2019, by the President of Ukraine to honor the bravery and heroism of soldiers in mechanized, motorized infantry, mountain assault, and infantry units of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, displayed in the struggle for the freedom, independence, and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as to initiate modern military traditions.
