On July 7, the Vinnytsia City Council voted in favor of amending and supplementing the Agricultural Sector Development and Food Security Program, becoming the first community in Ukraine to do so. These changes represent the initial steps towards implementing measures to establish wholesale and retail markets with facilities for long-term technological storage of various types of vegetables. They also aim to improve the community's agricultural market infrastructure. To assist local farmers in selling their agricultural products, the program includes the creation of the "Vinnytsia Farmer" trade brand.
The Department of Economy and Investment states that the program's objective is to provide Vinnytsia residents with high-quality and safe agricultural products directly from local producers. In the future, it aims to encourage the formation of farmer cooperatives and a wholesale and retail market that could eventually achieve regional status.
Maxim Martynov, the Director of the Department of Economy and Investment, emphasizes the importance of developing the community's agricultural sector. He highlights that this development should facilitate the creation of new farmer cooperatives, leading to increased employment opportunities and the advancement of organic production, especially given the challenges posed by the war, including the occupation of significant territories and damage caused by Russia's actions, such as landmines and flooding at the Kakhovska Hydroelectric Power Station.
