The brigade commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Denis 'Redis' Prokopenko, met with the personnel. This was reported on the page of the Azov Regiment.
"While in captivity I said that for me this war will not end until we bring back our last fighter from captivity and restore Ukraine's borders to the state of 1991. I am a soldier. I am not interested in any other activity than military. My heart, my soul, my body belong to Azov," Redis said at the meeting with the brigade fighters.
He also stressed that the main efforts today should be directed to combat training and replenishing the unit with personnel, equipment and weapons. The long-awaited meeting with the commander, his presence alongside subordinates and direct command of the unit is the necessary boost that will raise the morale of the brigade's servicemen and give them additional confidence on the battlefield, Azov stressed.
The personnel of Azov, who have been waiting for their commander's return from captivity for more than a year, are happy to welcome him back and are ready to fulfil all the tasks assigned to them. Currently, Lieutenant-Colonel Denis 'Redis' Prokopenko is undergoing rehabilitation and will soon resume his official duties.
It is worth noting that the commanders of the Azov Regiment, which defended Mariupol and the Azovstal plant against Russian invaders, have returned to Ukraine from Turkey.
Currently, more than 2,500 defenders of Mariupol from the Azovstal plant remain in Russian captivity, and their liberation is being pursued by military intelligence.
