In the Kirovohrad region, members of a criminal group that organized the trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances to a prison have been exposed. This was reported by the Kirovohrad Regional Prosecutor's Office.
Suspicion has been announced to the so-called "overseer" and six other members of the criminal group who established a channel for the supply of narcotic substances to one of the penal institutions and their distribution among the convicts.
"The 'overseer' assumed full informal authority over the inmates in the institution and ensured control over the introduction of prohibited items, narcotic substances, and psychotropic substances, including methadone, amphetamines, and cannabis," the statement said.
Among the participants in the criminal group, responsibilities were clearly divided for the acquisition, transportation, and concealment of various narcotic or psychotropic substances. Drugs were delivered to the prison through postal packages disguised as food products, medicines, hygiene items, and during personal visits.
During investigative actions, law enforcement officers documented more than 20 cases of drug transfers. During searches in the premises of the state institution and the residences of the suspects, narcotics and psychotropics, mobile phones, cash, flash drives, bank cards, draft records, and fiscal receipts for postal shipments were confiscated.
Currently, the unlawful activities of the members of the criminal group have been terminated, and motions have been filed with the court to impose pretrial detention measures on the suspects.
