Law enforcement officers in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast have arrested a 40-year-old man suspected of mistreating animals. This information was reported by the press service of the Main Department of the National Police in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. According to the report from the same department, the man shot and killed two dogs with a smoothbore hunting rifle.
The incident came to light on July 26, around 20:30, when residents of Dnipro city reported hearing gunshots in a garden community in Dnipro's district. A criminal investigation team established that two dogs had entered the man's yard, and he shot them with a hunting rifle. The suspect was detained under the provisions of Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and his smoothbore hunting rifle was confiscated.
The suspect was informed of the charges against him, which fall under Part 3 of Article 299 (Cruelty to Animals) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. If convicted, he could face up to eight years in prison.
Additionally, it is worth mentioning that a man in Odesa was convicted for assaulting a 5-year-old boy and subjecting him to abuse. The stepfather, under the pretext of "disciplining" the child, beat him with a leather belt with a metal buckle. Moreover, every two to three days, he forced the child to stand in a corner for up to four hours, and sometimes left him there overnight, causing the child to sleep on the floor.
