On July 29, a UNESCO mission arrived in Odessa to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the damage caused to cultural and religious sites by rocket strikes carried out by the Russian occupying army from July 19 to July 23, 2023. This was reported by the press service of the Odessa City Council.
Representatives from UNESCO also met with the Mayor of Odessa, Gennadiy Trukhanov, the head of the Odessa Regional Military Administration, Oleg Kiper, and Ukrainian Member of Parliament Oleksiy Leonov.
The Mayor of Odessa emphasized that the arrival of UNESCO specialists is of great importance for Odessa, whose historic center is part of the World Heritage List.
"We will continue to support and develop cooperation. Currently, this is a technical mission that will work in Odessa for several days. There is a lot of work ahead," said Chiara Dezzi Bardeschi, UNESCO Coordinator in Kyiv.
It should be noted that the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration reported on the consequences of enemy missile strikes on Dnipro. It was also reported that the Russian army had shelled Nikopol and the Marganetska community with heavy artillery. In the regional center, a high-rise building and the building of the Security Service of Ukraine were hit.
