Vinnytsia Prosecutor's Office files a lawsuit against Shariy and former head of regional police Ukraine news 29 Jul 2023 at 18:00

The Vinnytsia Prosecutor's Office has sent an accusatory act to court concerning Ukrainian blogger Anatoliy Shariy and the former head of the Main Department of the National Police in Vinnytsia Oblast. They are suspected of state treason.

The former head of the Main Department of the National Police in Vinnytsia Oblast in 2018 agreed to confidential cooperation with an employee of the Department of Operative Information of the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) while temporarily occupied by Russia in Crimea. Subsequently, using his connections from the past, he provided information to his Moscow curator about Ukrainian politicians, leaders of fuel and energy companies, and owners of internet resources who, in his opinion, could be used by Russian special services for subversive activities against Ukraine.

Additionally, he involved the leader of the banned pro-Russian party "Party of Shariy" and the well-known blogger Anatoliy Shariy, who currently resides in Spain, in unlawful activities. The blogger is currently producing pro-Russian content while masquerading as a Ukrainian patriot.

Shariy was aware that the activities of the former police chief of Vinnytsia Oblast were being directed by Moscow's special services and agreed to create videos that are politically biased and have anti-Ukrainian content. In May 2022, Shariy released a video titled "Enemies of the People in the Ukrainian Armed Forces?" This video is filled with narratives dictated by Russia. The fact that the video was released to the public was reported to their Moscow curators.

Shariy and the former head of the regional police could face punishment in the form of 15 years in prison or life imprisonment with property confiscation.
