The director of the Cherkasy Zoo commented on the health of the tigress

Video of a tigress convulsing in a Cherkasy zoo went viral across Ukraine within a day. The animal welfare organization UA Animals even filed a complaint with the police regarding this incident. As of the evening of June 4th, here's what is known about the condition of the animal.

Regarding the tigress residing in Cherkasy zoo, everything is fine, as stated by the zoo director, Yevhen Van. He added that the tigress is not young, so they plan to conduct a comprehensive examination. As of the morning of June 3rd, the tigress was doing well and felt normal. A comprehensive diagnosis is planned for Monday, considering her age. The director expressed surprise and dismay about the treatment of animals in the zoo, noting that there seems to be a lack of respect for the animals. People visiting the zoo often behave like barbarians, feed them inappropriate items, create noise, bang on fences and cages, attempting to agitate the animals, and damage zoo property. They also film these interactions for their enjoyment, resulting in unpleasant consequences.

Regarding the events from yesterday, Yevhen Van added that it would be a good idea to receive an apology from UA Animals for the unverified information. However, Olga Chevhanyuk, a representative from UAnimals, stated in a comment to the public that their organization did not contact the zoo. As for their claim, it concerns the absence of anyone nearby when the tigress became ill, raising questions about the lack of immediate assistance.
