On August 5, 2023, as a result of a Russian artillery shelling, defender Mykola Khandola was killed. This information was reported in the Telegram channel of the Pyriatyn community.
Mykola was born on April 6, 1975, in Pyriatyn. He studied at Pyriatyn School No. 6 from 1982 to 1993. In 1993, he was drafted for compulsory military service. After returning from the army, he enrolled at the Kharkiv State University of Agriculture, where he obtained a degree in energy engineering. While studying, he also worked at the Pyriatyn Meat Combine.
In September 2003, he started his career in the internal affairs agencies as a forensic expert. In 2012, he was appointed as an assistant to the chief of the operational duty unit at the Pyriatyn Regional Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In 2015, he joined the police force, but in June 2020, he was dismissed due to illness.
On March 5, 2022, after the start of full-scale war, Mykola was called up for military service through mobilization.
On August 9, at 11:00, a farewell ceremony for Mykola Khandola will take place in Pyriatyn on the square in front of the city council building. It is a solemn event to bid farewell to the fallen defender.
In addition to this, it was reported that the Russian army shelled Nikopol again in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, resulting in one man killed and another injured.
