On August 9, the first meeting regarding the preparations for September 1st was held, conducted by Katerina Yamshchykova, the Secretary of the Poltava City Council.

During the meeting, discussions covered the status of shelters and their construction, current and major repairs of premises, food provision, textbook availability, online and offline education, optimization of educational institutions, stationery kits for first-graders, and salary increases for school nurses, teachers, and educators.

The Director of the Department of Education of the Poltava City Council, Zhanna Kaploukh, reported that this year, 3,200 children will start school.

"There will be 112 first-grade classes in the community, with 125 extended-day groups. Thanks to a mixed form of education, nearly all 29,000 students will be able to receive offline education. Each school will have its own system of mixed forms: some will attend school on separate days, while others during specific hours. This all depends on the capacity of the shelters. Only four educational institutions in the community will work online. These include Verkholyanska Secondary School I - II levels, Andrushchanska Secondary School, Valkivska Secondary School, and Brychkivskyi Comprehensive School, where plans are in place to launch a kindergarten," noted Zhanna Kaploukh.

Regarding the operation of kindergartens, out of 12 closed kindergartens housing internally displaced persons (IDPs), 8 will reopen by October 1st.

"Starting today, 12-hour groups will operate in two kindergartens. We also plan to gradually open nursery groups in the coming weeks," said Zhanna Kaploukh.

Additionally, they discussed school stationery kits for first graders. This year, the contents of the kits have been updated to include items that students will need during their lessons.

For major repairs and shelter construction, projects need to be developed. According to Katerina Yamshchykova, having these projects will allow them to be implemented using state funds or within the framework of international aid programs.
