On May 27, as part of the "Zurich Trams" project, the 16th tramcar "Tram2000" arrived in Vinnytsia from Switzerland. Vinnytsia is expecting another 19 trams of this type. The Mayor of Vinnytsia, Serhiy Morgunov, announced this on his Facebook page.

The mayor expressed gratitude to the international partners and mentioned that the tramcars will soon be put into operation.

"The 'Tram2000' cars will hit the tracks of the city when their technical and legal preparation is completed. The launch is planned for this summer. We thank our Swiss partners for their support," the announcement said.

The received "Tram2000" trams differ from the already familiar "Mirage" and "Karpfen" trams for Vinnytsia residents by providing more comfortable conditions for passengers and certain technical characteristics.

The Department of Transport and Urban Mobility stated that the specialists of Vinnytsia Transport Company are already working on adapting these trams to Ukrainian legislation requirements.

"At the moment, the employees of the transport company are working on the installation of front and rear turns, stop signals, rear-view mirrors, including the left one, installation of an information system, and fare payment systems. The first Swiss cars are expected to go on the city routes in July," said Andriy Sorokin, the director of the Department of Transport and Urban Mobility.

Vinnytsia's cooperation with Switzerland has been ongoing since 2006. During the first stage of the "Zurich Trams" project (2006-2011), Vinnytsia received 116 tramcars, and in the framework of the second stage, it is expected to receive 35 Tram 2000 trams, as well as rails for the reconstruction of the tram tracks on Batozka Street.

The memorandum for the second phase of the project was signed in December 2020. The SECO (State Secretariat for Economic Affairs) non-refundable contribution to its implementation amounts to 3,200,000 Swiss francs.
