At the "Friend" shelter in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, there are approximately 500 animals, with an additional 200 residing in another location. Most of the dogs were evacuated from Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and other regions. Some of them had injuries and concussions, and more than 10 animals have disabilities. Recently, four-legged friends affected by the flooding in Kherson region also joined the shelter. According to preliminary estimates, there are around 300 such animals.

The animals from Kherson were rescued in a coordinated effort by volunteers and the Center for Animal Assistance. They were transported to safer locations to save them from the flooding caused by the destruction of the Kakhovska HPP. This rescue operation involved rescuing not only dogs but also other animals like ducks, chickens, a turtle, and a hedgehog.

Sergiy Ludensky, the coordinator of the Center for Animal Assistance, described the challenging mission of evacuating animals during the HPP destruction. They worked in a team and faced difficult conditions, including coming under fire. They rescued approximately 1,500 animals in total, with around 300 being relocated to Dnipro. Local volunteers and families provided temporary homes for these animals.

Now, the Center for Animal Assistance is working to establish a database to track the fate of these animals and ensure their well-being. They are also facilitating the adoption of some animals into new homes. One of the volunteers, Mariana Bolokhovets, took in 24 dogs for quarantine and care in her home. She is helping them adapt to a safer and more comfortable environment.

The owner of the "Friend" shelter, Mariana, emphasized the importance of allowing the animals from Kherson time to adapt, as they have been through traumatic experiences. She mentioned that they won't be put up for adoption until at least 4-5 weeks after their rescue.

It's crucial to ensure that the animals find responsible and caring owners who can provide them with a loving home. The well-being and successful adoption of these animals are paramount for the volunteers and organizations involved.
