In the center of Poltava, in the pedestrian zone on Sobornosti Street near the TSUM shopping mall, a parklet has been installed. The official opening will take place soon. This was reported by the City Development Institute.
A parklet is a dynamic public space where people can sit, relax, and observe street life. The introduction of parklets in cities is also a demonstration of the movement against the expansion of cars, offering an alternative use of space and transforming it into a mini-oasis.
Workshops have already been held on-site for the future parklet, including "Pedestrian Zone of Sobornosti Street - Transit or Action Space?" and "Public Space through the Eyes of Children." After the official opening, several more events are planned to create a comfortable urban environment.
The project to install the parklet is being implemented by the City Development Institute within the framework of the "Integrated Urban Development in Ukraine II" project, which is carried out by the German government company "Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH," with funding from the governments of Germany and Switzerland.
Currently, technical work is underway to enhance the aesthetic appearance of the parklet. Trees and flowers will also be planted to further enhance its attractiveness.
A parklet, in essence, is an extension of the sidewalk, providing more space and convenience for people to interact, socialize, and relax while using the street. Parklets are typically installed in place of one or more parking spaces on the street's side.
