In Kropyvnytskyi, an event was organized on the eve of International Homeless Animals' Day, which is observed on August 19th. The event involved collecting food and hygiene supplies for cats and dogs.

The organizers of the event were employees of the Dmytro Chyzhevsky Library in Kropyvnytskyi, specifically the Orhus Center for Environmental Information. This center operates within one of the library's departments.

"It's an action called 'Let's Help Homeless Animals Together'," said librarian Natalia Rakulenko. "We're collecting assistance for our four-legged friends. This includes food, hygiene products against fleas and ticks, cereals, and other goods that will be useful for our volunteers who work in shelters."

The collected items will be donated to Kropyvnytskyi shelters "Bim" and "Happy Dog," which care for homeless animals. This kind of assistance is needed continuously, according to Oksana Litvinova, the head of the public organization "Happy Dog."

Currently, the "Happy Dog" shelter houses 235 homeless dogs and 15 cats. Oksana Litvinova mentioned that it was most challenging to feed the animals at the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

"At the beginning of the war, it was very difficult. In just a few months, the number of animals doubled. Many animals were abandoned. People were leaving the country, and there were many internally displaced persons passing through the city who couldn't take their animals with them. All of them came to the shelter, seeking help, and the situation was very difficult back then."

The shelter currently has a two-month supply of food, but it needs to be replenished constantly. The greatest need is for vaccination medications. The street action lasted for an hour, and during that time, 32 kilograms of food were collected. The collection for homeless animals at the library will continue until the end of September, and a donation box will be placed at the entrance to the library.
