In Vinnytsia, the skatepark in the central park has been renovated

In Vinnytsia, the renovation of elements of the skatepark in the M. Leontovych Central Park has begun: they are repairing the dismantled ramp. The plywood for it was purchased in advance. The work is being carried out by a contracted company.

They plan to complete the renovation by the end of June, as stated by Alexander Melnyk, the head of the Department of Parks and Leisure of the territorial community. Renovation work was planned for the previous year but was postponed due to the full-scale invasion of Russia, which led to a lack of funding.

"Inside the ramp, there are wooden partitions and rails that need to be replaced. Some of them have rotted, but we plan to fit this into an optimal budget, taking into account the martial law, but in a way that makes all of this look normal and safe and provides safe conditions for the operation of such equipment," says Alexander Melnyk. Another side ramp is also being dismantled. These are the two largest elements of the skatepark, according to Melnyk. The renovation is carried out by a local subcontractor, and Finnish plywood has been purchased in advance for cladding this sports equipment.

"To make these ramps professional, you need to use Finnish plywood. It should be moisture-resistant, resistant to various types of loads, such as jumps, impacts, and other such moments that can cause damage. Finnish plywood itself is not a cheap pleasure," Melnyk added. A Vinnytsia resident, Igor Naumchuk, appealed to the mayor's office with a request to restore and expand the skatepark. In March 2023, he registered a corresponding petition on the city council's website. It only received 30 votes out of the required 350.

"Repeatedly, during surveys, the youth expressed mass active interest in using the skatepark. Boys and girls mostly ride on the road, which is not good. Expanding and increasing the site will bear fruit; Vinnytsia teenagers will be able to develop their hobby to a professional level," says Igor Naumchuk in the petition.

Alexander Melnyk mentioned that the total cost of updating the elements of the skatepark will be known after the renovation is completed, as there may be additional expenses. The purchase of materials cost almost UAH 48,000.

They plan to finish the major repair of both ramps and the rest of the elements by the end of June.
