A vibrant and energetic event took place on June 28th in Poltava's Peremoha Park in celebration of Constitution Day. Several hundred young people gathered for the Holi Fest, an event where the essence is to drench each other in dry colored powders.

Festival-goers had the opportunity to purchase the colored powders directly at the event, with one package of colored powder costing 30 hryvnias. 10% of the proceeds from each packet, which is 3 hryvnias, will be donated to the charitable foundation "Povernys Zhivym" (Return Alive) to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In total, the organizers prepared 200 kilograms of colored powders, compared to 150 kilograms used in 2021. According to Svitlana Koshil, one of the co-organizers of the event, such festivals have been held in Poltava for over five years. However, last year, due to the active phase of full-scale invasion, there was no time for festivities. This year, they decided to give the residents of Poltava and visitors a bit of vibrant and positive emotions.

Well before the event began, participants wasted no time in covering themselves in the colorful powders. Then, upon the command of the host, everyone simultaneously tossed the powders into the air. The celebration was accompanied by lively music, energetic dances, and numerous photographs.

Holi is a traditional Indian spring festival known for its vibrant colors. It traditionally involves mass gatherings, playing with colored powders made from natural ingredients (known as "Gula") and dousing each other with water. As eastern countries are more susceptible to various springtime viruses, this festival also serves as a preventative measure against springtime viral illnesses.

This is one of the oldest festivals, with references to its celebration in ancient texts. Evidence of its observance dates back 300 years before the Common Era (BCE). The festival of colors arrived in Europe from India and countries with a significant Hindu diaspora.
